Help setting up a emergency button

Hello!

I was trying to set up an emergency button in my robot, which is powered up by the Ubiquity board. In this scenario, I tried to make a configuration where, when I press the button, the motors stop, and only them - the Raspberry, the board and everything are still powered up.

However, I don’t know how to set up the connections to cut the energy from the motors in order to stop them from running. I’ve tried to see if powering up the 14th pin - below the one you power up the board - would work, but nothing. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance!

You seem to be asking about remote ESTOP switch for a Magni unit.
We have a rev 2.1 for the little switch board that now has a jack so users can have their own ESTOP (and/or main power) switch located on their chassis.
Please contact me using email to support@ubiquityrobotics.com for information.

I have updated the learn page that now shows the new rev 2.2 switch board at the end of the page below.
See this and let me know if this would solve your problem for a switch on the outside of your product.

How do I hook up an e-stop switch directly to pin 14 (EN MOTOR) port P601?
To stop motors, do I short it to the ground or leave it open?
I tried both methods and they do not work.
The motors keep on running during my keyboard-driving test.

I am trying to do this because the orange e-stop button on the little circuit board does not work either.

I am not sure what version of the control board I have. Here are some photos…

This Magni was donated to Circuit Launch in Oakland a few years ago.
I am using it for a project there.

Please advise. Thank you.

Charles

Since your unit was shipped we have covered this issue by shipping units nowdays with a couple jacks that allow for either Estop switch or a power switch that is on your own robot case.

Please look at the very last part of this page below for how it looks.

Look at the picture that says ‘Magni Switch Board - Rev 2.2’

Send an email to support@ubiquityrobotics.com and in the subject say something like Updated switch board Attention Mark
